Are you a Registered Nurse who has spent part of your career caring for older adults in assisted living or a similar residential care setting? Your experience matters, and a doctoral researcher would like to learn from you.
Jennifer Allen, a Doctoral Learner at Capella University, is conducting a research study to understand how experienced Registered Nurses share their professional knowledge with the next generation of nurses. The study focuses on the role of teamwork and informal learning communities in passing along the practical wisdom that comes from years of nursing experience.
If you are eligible and selected to participate, you will take part in one confidential session lasting approximately 70 to 100 minutes, which includes a short background questionnaire (5 to 10 minutes) and a 60 to 90 minute interview. The session is conducted by password-protected Zoom video conferencing at a time that is convenient for you. The interview will be audio-recorded with your permission so that your responses can be transcribed accurately. Video is not recorded or retained, and you will not need to appear on camera.
Participation is completely voluntary. You may decline to answer any question and you may withdraw at any time without penalty.
Participants will receive a $100 gift card as a thank-you for their time. If you choose to stop the interview before it is complete, you will still receive the full gift card.
To take part in this study, you must:
- Have been born between 1946 and 1964;
- Hold a current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by a licensing
board in a U.S. state or territory, in good standing;
- Currently work, or have worked at any point in the past 24 months, as an RN in
a licensed residential care setting in the United States that provides personal
care or assistance with activities of daily living — including settings known as

care homes, and the assisted living or memory care portions of senior living
communities. Any nursing role counts, and full-time, part-time, PRN, agency,
and contract work all count;

counting time across any employers and facilities
- Be able to read, speak, and understand English.
