Hello. I am a doctoral learner under the direction of Professor Dr. Rob Hess at Grand Canyon University. My name is Craig Kelley. I am conducting a research study to learn how nurse managers in acute care hospitals keep nurses on staff. I want to learn about the challenges they face and the steps they take to help nurses stay. What they share may help health care leaders better understand why nurses stay or leave.
INCLUSION- I am recruiting individuals that meet these criteria:
• Work as a registered nurse in a nurse manager role at an acute care hospital in the United States.
• Have at least one year of experience as a nurse manager. Your duties include staffing, work schedules, and efforts to keep nurses on staff.
• Directly lead staff nurses on at least one inpatient acute care unit. You do not work only in an executive or advisory role for a hospital system.
• Can speak, read, and understand English well enough to review this consent form and take part in a Zoom interview. The interview will last 60–90 minutes.
• Agree to have the interview recorded with both sound and video. The recording will be typed into a written record and used to study your answers.
• Agree to answer short questions about your role, years of experience, main work area, education, and the region where you work.
The ACTIVITIES for this research project will include:
• 1:1 interview (60- 90 minutes) via Zoom; audio and video recorded
• Willing to answer optional personal identifiable, demographic questions related to which specific department you work in, how many staff members report to you, how big is your hospital, what geographic region are you in, if you are involved in nurse staffing and retention, and what is your highest nursing degree (5-10 minutes).
Your participation in this study is voluntary. All participants will receive payment through User Interviews after you complete the interview in the amount of $80. User Interviews will pay you directly through its payment process.
All data in this study will be protected by keeping all digital study records in password-protected storage. The data will be uploaded to a secure folder in Grand Canyon University’s Learning Development Project system. Before I study or report your answers, I will remove names and other details that could identify you.
If you have questions about this study or are interested in participating, please contact me at ckelley38@my.gcu.edu for more information and next steps.
Thank you!
Craig Kelley
