When building your study, you have the option for User Interviews to automatically distribute incentives for your team, or your team can manually distribute incentives yourself. If you're unsure about how much to offer participants, check out our incentive calculator for data backed recommendations.

Choose to have UI distribute incentives, or your team can manually distribute incentives

If User Interviews is distributing incentives...

When you opt to have User Interviews distribute incentives for your team, participants are able to choose from select rewards and currencies when they redeem their incentive after a completed session.

What incentive options can participants choose from?

Amazon gift card

Amazon gift cards are available in USD, CAD, AUD, GBP, or EUR. EUR can only be used on Amazon.fr and Amazon.de sites.

Reward Link gift card

Reward Link is a gift card option allowing the participant to choose from dozens of popular store, restaurant, service, and experience gift cards. When they choose Reward Link when redeeming their incentive, they'll be prompted to select which of those gift cards they'd like have their funds in. Participants can even split their incentive balance between multiple gift cards, giving them greater flexibility to how they receive their reward!

This option is available in USD, CAD, AUD, GBP, or EUR.

Gift card options may vary by country, but in the US, participants can choose from options like:

  • Target
  • Whole Foods
  • Starbucks
  • Uber
  • Southwest Airlines
  • StubHub
  • DoorDash
  • Airbnb
  • Home Depot
  • And more!

What currency options are available?

Participants will see the incentive in USD when they apply to the study, but can redeem the study in USD, CAD, AUD, GBP, or EUR. We automatically convert the payment so participants receive their incentive in the correct amount relative to the currency they select.

If my team is distributing the incentives...

What incentives can I offer participants?

The choice is yours! Popular payments include Paypal, cash, check, a Visa gift card, and store gift cards.

What currency can I offer to pay incentives in?

Incentives are always shown on User Interviews in USD. If your team is distributing incentives and recruiting outside of the US, we recommend making incentives available in local currency.

Q&A

What is the participant's incentive redemption experience?

When you mark a participant's session as complete, the participant will be sent an email with a button prompt redeem their incentive. From there, participants will select the currency and reward type. Once they've made their selections, they'll be shown their Amazon gift card code or Reward Link redemption link and will receive an email with that information. Learn more in our participant incentive experience support guide.

Can I change the incentive amount, type, or who distributes the incentive after I launch my project?

It depends! You can email projects@userinterviews.com and your project coordinator can make incentive updates for you. Please note that in order to maintain a fair participant experience, we may not be able to make updates if participants are already confirmed.

Once participants are confirmed, we can only update the incentive type or who distributes incentive if the same or equivalent incentive is offered. For example, we cannot change a Paypal incentive to a Target gift card, or change a UI distributes incentive to a manually issued incentive unless you're also offering an option of dozens of digital gift cards. The exception is if all confirmed participants have agreed to this update.

Can I offer different incentive amounts or types to different participants?

It depends! If UI is distributing incentives, participants who complete a session will all receive the same study amount and will be able to choose between Amazon or Reward Link incentives. If your team is manually issuing incentives, and are open to giving participants a choice of incentives or offering bonuses or additional incentives to certain participants, that's great! Participants always appreciate options.
